Seventeen-year-old Julia Wright doesn’t understand her friends’ obsession with boys. She proudly maintains her composure no matter who is in her presence – though some annoying and rude boys still manage to grate her last nerve. Then she is blackmailed into being the manager of the men’s swim team, and finds herself face to face with the worst of them all.

Team Captain Vander Thelxinoe is the typical self-assured jock. He has the ability to change people’s minds at will, only his charms don’t work on Julia. Now he’s anxious to figure out why, and the closer he tries to get, the more desperate she is to stay away – especially when he somehow awakens a side of her she never knew existed.
Their unexpected friendship puts Julia in the middle of a quest she doesn’t quite understand. As her familiar world begins to unravel around her, Julia must partner with the one person who knows how to push her buttons – and, in doing so, discovers the unbelievable truth about who she really is. Can Julia and Vander survive the trial set before them, or will they face the extreme consequence of failure?

Diving into Trial by Charm was an absolute pleasure! Jolene was able to blend new age with old school myth flawlessly. She developed smart, thought out characters who grow with each obstacle that came their way.

Julia was a breath of fresh air, she was smart, quick and held my attention during this entire book. Even though she's is able to keep her composure around boys as soon as Vander enters her world something just clicks. Now she doesn't turn into "that girl" who's throwing herself suddenly at him, but the chemistry around them is definitely different.

I really did appreciate how the author unraveled the plot between Julia & Vander. Explaining Vander's back story, allowing us to get a glimpse into his life, his family....I felt these were key points that needed to be made in order for not only the story to flow, but for their relationship to work & make sense.

With Trial by Charm being the first in Jolene's newest series I can't wait to see where these characters go during this series! Julia has the potential to be one of the best YA heroines I've ever seen....and I'm really hoping she lives up to my expectations.
