{Blog Tour: Review} Earth's Requiem (Earth Reclaimed #1) - By Ann Gimpel

Release Date: 3/1/2015
 Purchase Info: Amazon ~ B&N
Resilient, kickass, and determined, Aislinn's walled herself off from anything that might make her feel again. Until a wolf picks her for a bond mate and a Celtic god rises out of legend to claim her for his own.

Aislinn Lenear lost her anthropologist father high in the Bolivian Andes. Her mother, crazy with grief that muted her magic, was marched into a radioactive vortex by dark creatures and killed. Three years later, stripped of every illusion that ever comforted her, twenty-two year old Aislinn is one resilient, kickass woman with a take no prisoners attitude. In a world turned upside down, where virtually nothing familiar is left, she’s conscripted to fight the dark gods responsible for her father’s death. Battling evil on her own terms, Aislinn walls herself off from anything that might make her feel again in this compelling dystopian urban fantasy.

Fionn MacCumhaill, Celtic god of wisdom, protection, and divination has been laying low since the dark gods stormed Earth. He and his fellow Celts decided to wait them out. After all, three years is nothing compared to their long lives. On a clear winter day, Aislinn walks into his life and suddenly all bets are off. Awed by her courage, he stakes his claim to her and to an Earth he's willing to fight for.

Aislinn’s not so easily convinced. Fionn’s one gorgeous man, but she has a world to save. Emotional entanglements will only get in her way. Letting a wolf into her life was hard. Letting love in may well prove impossible.

I WANT MORE...NOW!

By far my new favorite series...I want to take a running leap into this world and never leave it! It bleed details, from the cave walls of Aislinn's home, to the ominous world of Taltos, each crack & stone was beautifully depicted.

There are so many layers of magical creatures to take in throughout Earth's Requiem, it could almost become overwhelming, but the author has a true talent to make sure you've soaked each type of character in before introducing the next. There's bond animals, ghost armies, evil lords  who are essentially walking sex & Gods waiting in the wings. One of my favorite characters was Rune, though he may be a wolf, he's witty & brave. Struggling with a tremendous loss is what I felt truly brought him and Aislinn together....that and they're both slightly stubborn.

As a main heroine Aislinn kicked some definite ass! Being strong armed into working for people you don't trust was probably the 2nd hardest thing she ever had to do, but losing your family right before that really gave her the drive to ensure their deaths weren't in vain. She has a goal for seeking out vengence & at the beginning of the book it's unclear how that plan will transpire, so as Aislinn starts aquiring more and more gifts you can totally see where things are headed. She's becoming powerful, gaining allies, and plotting some game changing moves. She wants Earth back, the waste lands that were once populated with humans need to once again be populated by them....not by deadly monsters who seek warmth & flesh.

Oh boy....where to end....it's hard for me to go back and truly remember where book #1 ended and #2 began. They bled together perfectly, and honestly I jumped from one directly into the other (which makes it hard to decipher sometimes). I geniuenly encourage anyone who is reading this to not only buy Earth's Requiem, but the entire Earth Reclaimed Series, you absolutely will not be disappointed!

{Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway} The Brass Giant - By Brooke Johnson

Author: Brooke Johnson

Release Date:
Purchase Info: Amazom ~ B&N

Sometimes, even the most unlikely person can change the world
Seventeen-year-old Petra Wade, self-taught clockwork engineer, wants nothing more than to become a certified member of the Guild, an impossible dream for a lowly shop girl. Still, she refuses to give up, tinkering with any machine she can get her hands on, in between working and babysitting her foster siblings.
When Emmerich Goss–handsome, privileged, and newly recruited into the Guild–needs help designing a new clockwork system for a top-secret automaton, it seems Petra has finally found the opportunity she’s been waiting for. But if her involvement on the project is discovered, Emmerich will be marked for treason, and a far more dire fate would await Petra.
Working together in secret, they build the clockwork giant, but as the deadline for its completion nears, Petra discovers a sinister conspiracy from within the Guild council … and their automaton is just the beginning.

Metal & Mystery!

Will you look at that! My 2nd steam punk style book in a week....and I am addicted, for sure.

Jumping straight into this book was a challenge, not only was I coming directly off another steam punk book, but this book also had a determined leading female. Petra wants so much out of life that it hurts. She knows she's got the talent to hang with these upper class inventors, but within the settings of The Brass Giant she can't exactly do that.
After plenty of trying she finally finds her out, or should I say "in", with Emmerich.

The dynamic between these 2 was very well thought out. Not only were they complete opposites, but they were opposites that completed each other's faults, or what the other was lacking. Emmerich felt truly genuine to me, he did want Petra to succeed...but there were times when I wondered if he wanted it more.

Overall the end vibe of this book was amazing! Each plot came together, the bad "people" threw me for a loop.  I'm happy to say that I can see this series going far. Petra & Emmerich will be one of those famous series couples you'll need to watch out for, because their story will either end happily or in heart break.

AUTHOR BIO:

I’m a book-writing, selfie-taking, latte-drinking, social media gal. I’m living a good life on the road as a full-fledged Bedouin (Well, except, my tent is actually a fully-equipped RV.) Me and my partner-in-crime (Benj) tend to hunker down wherever the skies are clear and the temps stay in the 70’s. We call ourselves Gypsy Nerds because we aimlessly wander the U.S. with glasses perched upon our noses and faces jammed into computer screens (for the first half the day... The second half of the day is typically devoted to playing because we’re also somewhat immature.)

Like most authors, the characters I create are my extended family.  And like most readers, when the story ends, I get a little sad. In real life, I have two handsome, hardworking, grown-up boys who know how to make their Mama proud! *Waves to Joey and Mike!*

The Ascension Series is my debut into the world of YA fiction.

I’m living what I love and loving what I live!

{Review} Awakening the Fire (Guardian Witch #1) - By Ally Shields

Author: Ally Shields
Release Date: 9/14/2012
Purchase Info: Amazon ~ B&N

It's her first murder case...

Twenty-three-year-old Ari Calin has sworn to keep the peace in the Olde Town district of Riverdale, and most of the time the Otherworlders cooperate. The vampires, werewolves and other magical creatures go about their business, living side by side with humans, until the foreign wolves arrive and a virtual reality drug hits the streets. Violence erupts, and Ari needs more than her witch fire, weapons, and potions to stop the madness.

Joining forces with a human police officer, Lt. Ryan Foster, and a way-too-sexy vampire singer, Andreas De Luca, Ari hunts for the enemy—from the vampire strip clubs to the caverns under the city. Every step draws Ari and her companions deeper into an old feud and closer to the brink of a supernatural war.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
This book drips sex, danger and mystery for days!
Ari is something special, I love her abilities. How she's able to manipulate things, auras, create barriers between her and others. It truly is unique and such a breath of fresh air to have a strong female lead who has something different about her. Along with Ari's magic, she does have a softer side that longs for something else. (Though honestly I feel like it's hard for her to admit sometimes).
When she's put immediately into action & her first case is such a large one, I felt like someone was setting her up from the beginning. There were too many instances that made me go, hmmmmmm, but I loved how the entire story played out overall.
Now let's talk hunks!
Andreas De Luca....he is sexy...though he reminds me a lot of other power vampires I've read about in the past, I enjoyed the fact that he sang. It was a different quality that I felt set him apart from every other vampire out there. When Ari & Andreas worked together you could feel the heat between these 2 jump off the pages! And boy was I fanning their flames! #TeamAndri
There was a fine line with him when it came to Ari's investigation, because at times I felt like he was keeping a lot from her. Overall the evolution of their relationship throughout the book really worked for me. It wasn't too fast, but it didn't crawl at a snails pace either...trust me when I say their chemistry is worth waiting for!
I am stoked to see where the rest of this series goes! If Ari's powers keep climbing, and she can maintain this vampire in her back pocket she truly will become a force to be reckoned with!
{Blog Tour: Review + Giveaways} The Deepest Poison - By Beth Cato
~~~~~~~~~~

Author: Beth Cato
Release Date: 4/28/2015
Purchase Info: Amazon ~ B&N

Octavia Leander, a young healer with incredible powers, has found her place among Miss Percival's medicians-in-training. Called to the frontlines of a never-ending war between Caskentia and the immoral Wasters, the two women must uncover the source of a devastating illness that is killing thousands of soldiers. But when Octavia's natural talents far outshine her teacher's, jealousy threatens to destroy their relationship—as time runs out to save the encampment.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I LOVE Octavia!
Not only does her name just sound awesome, but as a character she has true grit an determination.
One thing that I absolutely loved was how Beth was able to create such a fantasic villian out of Octavia's mentor. Miss Percival is a piece of work....she's too jealous for her own good & that's what I love about her. There are times when I wanted to slap her silly, but I think that all bad guys make us want to do that at least once in a great book. It's funny what jealous can make people do, but all I truly wanted was for Miss Percival to help Octavia with this strange dieases that's killing off their soliders. You would think that having Octavia help her would be a blessing, but it's funny the things she did to almost sabotage her.
Though this was just a short novella prequel to Beth Cato's The Clockwork Dagger I took enmse joy from getting to know this elborate steam punk world. I might not review a lot of steam punk, but this short book reminded me why I should more. From every nook & cramy, to each solider out on the battle field there wasn't a single detail left out!
Personally I can't wait to read the rest of this series, because Octavia's journey is one I do not want to miss out on. Bravo Miss Cato!!
Excerpt:
“The magic Titania used to secure her crown in the mountain will not yield to one of half-witch blood. Only a full-blooded faerie can retrieve the crown. It was her insurance that no one other than a full faerie could be her usurper.”
“You mean her successor.” I hated to think of myself as overthrowing the monarchs of Faery.
He rolled his eyes. “If you prefer. All you need to remember is that this dragon will use telemetry to sense your plan of attack. I can block his attempts, but you will be far more enticing to him, once he catches wind of your scent. Do not let the fog enter your mind. Keep it clear and free from thoughts and worries. I will return to the mountainside with the crown. We want to gain access by stealth, for we may not win through strength of arms. Your only task it to stay here, at the mouth of the cave and hold his attention. Can you do that?” He searched my face.
“Do I have a choice?”
“Always.”
“Yes. I can do that.” My heart pounded. I was a bundle of nerves and terror. “Is there anything else I need to know?”
Zanthiel withdrew his canteen of water and handed it to me. “Don't bleed. They are attracted to it.”
“Wonderful. Anything else? Never mind, don't tell me. Don't want to know.” At least I had magic to fall back on. There was some consolation in that. I swallowed several gulps, letting it splash down my neck and chest.
  “Darkness will bleed from your soul should you turn to it too often, Lorelei. You need to live a life without reliance on your dark magic. If not, in time it will consume you.”
Frowning, I handed back the canteen. “You used to encourage that.”
“I no longer do,” he said in earnest. “I couldn’t bear to watch you become something you are not. Something you were never meant to be.”
“Picked a great time to grow morals. Right now I don't have any other choice, do I?”
“You use that excuse far too often. You always have choices. It is when you claim not to have any that they are taken from you.”
Of course I had choices, but they were never between good and bad, or right and wrong. They were between horrifying and catastrophic.
His expression shifted from warrior to protector. “You hold too much beauty for this world. Too much goodness resides within your heart. I see it daily, and it pains me to watch it diminish as you fight to save those you love. It’s why I agreed to the madness of this plan. If you are no longer being hunted, then the need for you to use dark magic to protect yourself diminishes too, at least somewhat. Then, you will allow me to protect you. At least, that is my hope.”
I nodded. “I don’t want dark magic to change who I am. Not in that way.” I didn’t know how else to respond. His raw honesty always caught me off guard. “Let’s just get through this, okay?”
He gave a single nod, his inner warrior firmly back in the lead. “First the beast will use the smog to read the mind of its opponent, gaining a sense of their intentions. Should that tactic fail, and it must, it will resort to fire. An even greater threat when the beast becomes airborne.”
This was daunting. I paced a few steps, pressing my fingers to my temples, refusing to picture what was sure to be our end.
“Dragons have one weak spot,” he continued. “The throat, just under its chin. If I can pierce it, it will kill it.”
My pacing stopped. “Okay. This isn't a goblin or even a wyvern we're talking about. It’s a dragon. It’s like a million times bigger than those other two, and they're hard enough to kill. You’ll never succeed.”
“Your lack of faith in me grows tiresome.” He pulled out faerie armor from his pack. The silver leaves embedded on it were impossibly strong and impervious to fire.
“I mean it. How are you going to stroll up to a fire-breathing monster and just stab it in the neck?”
“I won’t. You will be outside of the cave, drawing its attention. I will retrieve the crown. Only if needed will I slay the beast.”
“Distract him?” I nearly laughed out loud. “Distract a dragon? With what exactly, a puppet show?” I shook my head. “And if I can’t hold its attention, and it doesn’t barbecue me on the spot… how will you get close enough to stab it?”
He reached over his shoulder, withdrew an arrow from his quiver and handed it to me. The head of it ignited with a yellow flame.
“A flaming arrow. Much better plan.” I passed the arrow back.
“Remember all I’ve told you. It cannot see you clearly. It can only find you through your fear and its sense of smell. It can detect motion, so move slowly. You will have an opportunity to use all of what I've taught you, combined with all that you already know.” He strapped armored lapels to me, yanking the belt tight to secure them.
I lifted my arms above my head as he wrapped more armor around my midriff. “Okay, see, the thing is I really don't know all that much.” I frowned. This plan grew more terrifying by the moment.
His hands lingered on my waist as his gaze held mine. “You know enough. I'm trusting that you do. You must trust it too. Otherwise we are both dead. From what you've told me, that isn't something you want.”
