{Cover Reveal} Temptest In Disguise - By Riley Bancroft

Tempest In Disguise
by Riley Bancroft
Series: Darkest Faerie Tale, #1
Genre: Dark Erotic Urban Fantasy Romance
Cover Designer: Fiona Jayde
Release Date: November 6, 2014

Born the only hybrid between two warring factions, Mya's life is all smoke and mirrors. For twenty four years her true identity has been kept a secret inside the virtuous Seelie Court of the ancient Fae. But that time has come to an end. In one sudden blow, her perception of reality is irrevocably altered and her livelihood is stripped away. A dark and mysterious stranger has set his sights on her to possess, consume and claim her for himself. Mya must keep her wits about her to survive…or surrender to her darkest desires.

As one of the leaders in the infamous Unseelie Court, Cole is determined to seize the powerful and magickal hybrid from the enemy’s court on behalf of his people.  A battle is looming and they’re ready to end the war at any cost, but for Cole it’s personal.  The scar on his face is a daily reminder of the cuts marring his darkened soul and when he goes after the hybrid, a burning need to dominate and master her is far too great. Despite the consequences he faces for touching her, Cole's dark and twisted hunger is unable to resist her allure. He craves her full submission, but in order to do that, he must take everything away from her first.

Dark, Erotic Paranormal Romance with BDSM Elements…

He angled his head lower down until their mouths were only a centimeter away. “Perhaps, you need someone to show you the way—to take control.”

Mya licked her lips and tried to ease the anxious pace of her heart as she inhaled his breaths. Her thoughts made her words come out muddled. “Or, maybe I’m the one controlling you already.”

“You like to play games, Mya?” He taunted her with his lips, so close, yet too far away.

The walls of her core clenched and released, an aching void, wanting to be filled. A sting of pleasurable pain seared her breasts and her shoulders arched when he pinched her rock hard nipple through her clothes. Her thigh muscles almost gave out as need for him ripped through her. “Do you like to play games?” she asked back in raspy voice.

“Have you ever studied psychology, Mya? When a person is nervous or unsure they basically repeat what the other person said.”

Damn it. Was she nervous? She couldn't think straight. Both halves of her warred for dominance. One side wanted him to play with her. The other wanted to out play him. He was a dark temptation for her and her downfall at the same time. To hell with it all, she let her Unseelie side rule the moment. Her hips thrust backward and she ground against his shaft. Arching her back, she titled her head up, moving her mouth closer to his. Contact. Warm, thick lips met hers and an urgent need sparked a greater want inside of her.

As she reached up behind her and twined her fingers in his hair to pull him tighter, he returned the frenzied kiss. His tongue sought hers demanding surrender in her mouth and it fueled her lust with every stroke. Every touch from him, his dominating hold over her, lit her up—like a raging fire in a forest ready to consume every tree in its path.

Mya lost herself with him, just the two of them, two bodies burning in an inferno seeking more. She melted against him and let him take the reins, following each movement of his lips and tongue, unable to get enough of him.

He fisted his hand into her hair and pulled her head back. “Take off your clothes.”

The hell you say. Her thoughts couldn't keep up with her maddening pulse. “What?” Deep down though, she knew their game led up to this defining moment.

“I think you heard me.” He tightened his hold on her. “You wanted to play, you wanted control—well, I want your surrender.” A dangerous hunger danced across his face.

The lustful glint in his eyes left her breathless, even hotter than before. She licked her lips, contemplating the seriousness of what he asked for, the taste of him lingered on her tongue. Would she be able to do, as he demanded?

Riley Bancroft grew up in the heart of Texas. Ever since she was little she favored stories on the darker side, not just supernatural, but psychological as well. She penned her first erotic poems in college about the love of her life. The pursuit of her writing career began when she wrote a short story based on the intimate scene missing in Twilight, to share with her friends. They encouraged her to write her own novel. And so, she did.

This blew my mind!

Those who know me know that I am a zomibe buff, and Sanctuary took any standards that I have & blew them out of the water. Pauline was able to create a different type of Zombie/Apocolyptic genre that is filled with multiple different types of horrific monsters. There are your stero-typical zombies, then you have wailers....holy MOSES!
I can not count on one hand how many times my skin started crawling in this book. With all the page-by-page cliff hangers, close calls and just flat out creepiness, I was glued to this book from the beginning!
The one thing that I could have gone without in this book is Brad...he just screams @$$hole....and I kind of wish he would have screamed it from the streets so he would have been taken, or killed. But, just as every character, I know he serves a purpose. (Even if I can't stand him)

On the other side of the character spectrum, there's Jennie. At first I wasn't sure what to think, I felt as though her sweet-nice side would get her killed. Yet it seemed like her faith is what kept her strong, and I am not one to like a lot of religious features in a book, but there was just enough tactful use of it to have a perfect little marriage.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this thrilling whirl-wind of horror. I am pretty sure there will be multiple books to this series, and if not I will be begging Pauline to brew something up.

Excerpt

Jennie filled the glass and set it on the counter. She needed an ibuprofen.
As she reached up to the top shelf in the pantry, a vibration started in her chest. Holding the white bottle in her hand, she turned around confused.
Like a jet when it flew too low, the rumble increased in intensity as it approached. Jennie watched the glass tremble on the counter top for a moment before fear clenched her stomach. “MOM!?”
She rushed to the sink and looked out the window, but her mother wasn’t in the garden any more. Jennie barreled through the kitchen, the vibrations in her chest like bass on a stereo. “MOM?”
When Jennie reached the back door, she saw them. Four large dog-like creatures with pinched faces like bulldogs and lion-like manes. They snarled, and one of them leapt at the window on the top half of the door when it saw her. Jennie jumped back and fell hard on the cold tile floor. The bottle of painkiller bounced across the kitchen tiles. The creature slammed against the window a second time, cracking it. She blinked hard. Her heart sunk, and the hairs on her arms stood on end. A horrendous gargling howl rent the air, causing a shiver down her spine. She held her breath and waited for the creature to slam into the door again.
“What on earth?” she whispered to herself.
When the third attempt never came, she scrambled toward the door. Blinking hard, she used the door knob to help herself stand. Out the cracked window, her mother was still out of sight, but the last of the dogs headed across the field behind her backyard.
“MOM?” Jennie called out.
The rumbling faded, and the vibrations in her chest receded with the dogs. She pulled open the door and rushed onto their back deck. “Mom, where are you?”
When she reached the banister, she looked over the side. Her mom lay sprawled with one hand on the lattice. Blood gushed from Mom’s leg and her opposite arm. Jennie’s ears rang and flooded with every beat of her heart.
Jennie didn’t know how she got to the second floor of her house, but she found herself shaking her sleeping father. How had he slept through the rumbling? “Outside, it’s Mom…”
Her father leapt from the bed. Mickey, her little brother, lay asleep and undisturbed. Dad ran down the stairs and outside in his flannel pajama bottoms and white t-shirt. He scooped Mom up to his chest and carried her inside. Blood stained his shirt in crimson.
“Jennie, call 911!”  Her father had said it at least three times before it finally registered in her brain.
She pulled the cell phone from her pocket, but it refused to connect. With a groan, she grabbed the cordless from the wall receiver, glad her heart stopped pounding in her head so she could hear.
“All operators are busy at this time,” a mechanical voice deadpanned, “Please stay on the line, and the next available operator will take your call.”
“They have me on hold, Dad. Should I hang up and try again?” She held the phone in both hands away from her face.
“No, just stay on the line.” Her father lifted the shredded jeans from Mom’s leg. “It looks like a shark bite. What on earth happened?”
Jennie took in the damage through tear-filled eyes. A huge chunk was taken from her mother’s calf, exposing the fibrous tendons that covered the bone in her leg. A bloodstain grew on the beige couch. Was she going to die? Panic rose up.
“What happened, Jennie?”
“I...I...They looked like lions, or dogs, or something. The rumbling shook the whole house…I tried to go outside to get Mom, but—” A sob blocked her throat.
Her father grabbed a throw pillow and held it against the leg. Mom’s exposed forearm laid across her chest in much the same condition as her calf.
“Grab me the duct tape.”
Jennie suddenly remembered the phone, put it back to her ear, and headed to the hall closet. She reached for the shelf above the jackets and grabbed the junk basket next to the toolbox.
“Please stay on the line. An operator will be with you shortly.”
She shoved the phone in the crook of her neck and fished through the box.  Half the contents dropped around her feet. Who cares? When her fingers wrapped around the silver duct tape, a short-lived relief sent prickles down her arms. But the urgency gripped her chest in less than a heart beat, and she threw the junk basket on the ground with the rest of the items.
“Hurry, Jennie!” her father called from the living room. “And turn on the TV. Maybe they’ll have something about what’s going on.”
She handed her father the tape and turned toward the TV. The mechanical voice on the phone came through again, followed by more easy listening.
When she clicked on the TV, the shouting and wailing began before the picture warmed up on the screen. A sideways picture of New York City broke through, with the shaky voice of the newscaster voicing over.
“What we are watching now – I can’t believe it – is live footage of Times Square,” the newscaster’s voice paused for a deep breath. “We’ve lost our man on the scene and his camera man to what appears to be some kind of new alien creature. Just a short half-hour ago, the doors to the ship that hovered above Central Park opened and these dog-like creatures flooded out.”
Jennie couldn’t pull her eyes from the screen. She straightened and dropped the phone on the hardwood. The battery popped out and skidded across the floor.

Author Insight:
The Names

Names are fun. One of the perks of writing fiction as a primary job is that you get to play around with lots of names. Names should represent the personality of a character, in my opinion, so I try to match my characters with appropriate monikers. In Day Zero, my protagonist’s name is Elle. It’s a somber, pretty name for a somber, pretty girl. (A girl with attitude, mind you, but still!)

My favorite names in Day Zero are Pix and Flash – twins, a brother and a sister. I don’t want to give away anything, but I played around with a lot of names before settling on those two. Thanks to the Internet, you can find names and their meanings far quicker than in the past. It’s better to use Google than to slog through those dusty piles of baby-name books in your mother’s attic.

Not that I’ve done that, but you get my point! Names should be memorable, and I also think that there should be a fair variety of different names in a book. For example, naming your characters James, John, Janice, Jenny and Jared is what I’d call “alliterative overkill.” Mix up the names! Make them fun, and most of all, make a character and their name instantly identifiable to the reader.

{Box Set Sale + Giveaway} Dirty Blood Series - By Heather Hildenbrand

“Heather Hildenbrand is one of my favorite YA paranormal authors. Her Dirty Blood series is a must-read!” -Ella James, author of the Stained series

DIRTY BLOOD BOX SET & NEW COVER REVEAL

!!!ON SALE FOR A LIMITED TIME!!!

PLUS GET AN EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT FROM BOOK 5, RELEASING IN MARCH 2015!!!

INCLUDED IN THIS BOX SET:

BOOK 1 – DIRTY BLOOD

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up.

Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And two, I was born to kill them.

BOOK 2 – COLD BLOOD

Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected.

For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they're kicking your butt in the process.

At least I've got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De'Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he's destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn't going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point's evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself, how did I end up here?

BOOK 3 – BLOOD BOND

Hybrids.
If I had to choose one word to sum up all of my problems, this would be it.
Without hybrids, I wouldn’t have to watch my best friend slowly becoming a monster. Without hybrids, I could let go of the mentality “hunt or be hunted.” CHAS wouldn’t be scouring the Earth, intent on slaughtering and using Alex to do it. Without hybrids, I wouldn’t have to be on guard that losing my temper meant losing my shape. There would be no monster inside me, struggling to get out.

Then again, without hybrids, I wouldn’t have Wesley St. John.

BOOK 4 – BLOOD RULE

Forty-six.
That’s how many hybrids survived the Hunter attack in the woods after I revived them with an injection of my blood. That’s how many followed me home to Frederick Falls. And that’s how many were now mentally linked to me through a blood bond.

Two days. Three valium. Fourteen hours of sleep.
That’s what it took to realize I wasn’t losing my mind as a result of the noise in my own head.

Sixteen.
That’s how many days have passed since I almost killed Alex. That’s how many days I’ve sat by his bedside, waiting for him to wake up. To ease the guilt, to understand his betrayal, to remember the exact shade of brown in his eyes.

Zero.
That’s my chances of skating by with Gordon Steppe and the Hunter Council. They want me for questioning. I’m afraid what’ll happen if I give them answers.
