{Blog Tour: Review + Giveaway} Chasing the Wind - By Nazarea Andrews

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Author: Nazarea Andrews
Website
Release Date: 6/18/2015
Purchase Info: Amazon
Kaida grew up in two worlds--a child in the Manor raised by Sabah before she was granted Citzenship. But the only place she has ever felt like she's belonged is with Cedric and Guin, the boys she grew up with.
When Cedric's involvement in a rebel faction goes wrong, the Commission exiles her and holds Guin hostage. Now, she's on her own for the first time, and searching for the sister who left her behind and a princess who was stolen from the City--and then she stumbles across a face from the past.
Hawke has been an outcast since his Tribe died. When he finds Sabah's sister on the road, he agrees to help her. But as they search the wilds and grow closer, his disdain for her is slowly replaced by a deep attraction for the girl who faces every challenge so bravely.
And as the City's deadline dwindles, and the boy she loves hangs in the balance, Hawke is left to wonder if he is protecting her, or if he the biggest threat she will face.
With Nazarea Andrews you can never be disappointed!
I did go into the second book in this series not having read the first one, and was I lost at first?? A little. It took me a second to catch onto the dynamic between Kaida and Guin....and Cedric...but as gracefully as Nazarea builds her worlds I quickly felt as though I've known these characters forever.
Praise Jesus that I was able to meet Hawke at the same time everyone else was, because he is absolutely delicious! Brave, fearless, willing to sacrifice himself in order to protect Kaida at any cost, and that fine balance of violence that makes us all swoon over men like Hawke. Nazarea has a true talent for sculpting men that ooze sex, violence and bad-ass! (I'll take 2!) My heart bled for Hawke, not only for the heartache that he was feeling as his feelings began to develope for Kaida, but what he had to experience in his life to end up where he did. Everyone says that tragedy shapes people into who they become, but Hawke won't let Kaida see what he's been shaped into, and frankly I think it's because he's not quiet sure who that truly is.
Frustration hit me with Kaida....does she have a lot going on with the male group dynamic?? Sure.
But who doesn't when you have men that you've known since childhood, one who's being held captive, and a mysterious outcast who drips intrigue! Throughout the entire book Kaida had some moments of absolutely strength, showing who and what she can be, but then the next second she would be questioning too much for my liking. I'm not sure if she was like this in the first book, but I feel like it's an evolution of character for her, or prehaps an emotional defect from everything that she's been through since the ending of the first book. Either way it makes me want to look further into what makes Kaida.
I will go ahead and automatically think that there's a third book to come with the way #2 left off, or at least I hope that there is. Each character in this series has such potential that it's extremely exciting to see where an author like Nazarea can take them to.
Excerpt:
I swear someone broke into my house and stole one of every shoe I owned. It was probably that National Guard asshole who gives me dirty looks every time I leave our compound. Yeah, I bet it was him. Despite the world crashing down around us, he still made time to be a dick.
“Mom! Where’d you put my cleats?” Reaching under the bed, I pulled out a crusty piece of pizza, several pairs of boxers, and a giant ball of gray fuzz. But not the other shoe I needed for football practice this afternoon. “Mom!”
“Stop yelling,” she said calmly from my doorway. “You know, if you’d clean your room every once in a while, it wouldn’t look like a nuclear bomb exploded in here and you just might be able to find something.”
Still crawling around on the floor, I tossed the mix of clean and dirty clothes to the side as I continued to search for my shoe. “Did you put them somewhere?”
“Why would I take your shoes?”
I looked up at her and shook my head. Blonde hair pulled up into a bun, arms crossed, and her body leaning gently against the door frame, my mom had no intention of helping me. In fact, she was trying not to smile.
“Because you enjoy tormenting me?” I mumbled.
“I don’t enjoy tormenting you, Zachary.”
Rolling my eyes at the use of my full name, I stood and grabbed my bag off the bed. “Well, I guess I’ll just go to practice barefoot.”
“Did you check your closet?” my mom asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Of course I did!”
“Really?”
She jerked her chin in that direction and I followed her gaze. There, resting up against the white slated door, sat my football cleat. “Did you just put that there?”
My mom laughed. “Yes, I have the power of telekinesis and I use it specifically to torture you.”
Excerpt:
I realize we’ve been unconsciously leaning toward each other. I step back, but he closes the distance again. His subtle, clean, masculine scent intoxicates me.
“I’m your best option. I have enough experience to guide you, teach you, and protect you from harm. If you want to, of course.”
“What harm?”
He brushes my cheek lightly with his enormous finger. The touch electrifies my skin. “Harm from other guys, from your friend, from yourself.”
I think about his size, knowing I’m not ready for this man.   “If I don’t want to go all the way …”
“Then we won’t. If you want to, this could be an addition to the other skills I’ll train you on …”
I keep stepping back, shortening the distance to the trees.  “Wouldn’t that be fraternizing? You’re not supposed to fraternize with Nats. They’ll deport you.”
He looks at me as though I’m crazy. “So? The world if full of places for us to go if you wanted to come with me.”
He’s deluded. No country would admit me without a passport tattoo. But hearing those words from his deep, masculine voice is heaven. “They’ll execute you.”
“I’ve put my life at risk for others ever since I joined the Army. It’d be a nice change to risk my life for something I want for me.” His humorless face smolders. “I crave you.”
Aleksey craves me. My cheeks warm at his words, and I don’t know what to say. He looks as though he has been dying to let those words out for a while. His eyes look at me expectantly. I can recognize his lust but … is there a difference between lusting and craving?
I shake my head. It doesn’t matter, anyway. He is an ex-soldier, and he looks more dangerous and violent than actual soldiers, so he’s off-limits. But I’m overwhelmed with feelings I haven’t ever felt before.
I look at him questioningly. “I don’t know anything about you.”
The cop looks down at himself and smiles wickedly. “You know my feet are big. What is left to know?”
Author Q&A:
Where do you write?
I write at my desk. I rarely write anywhere else. It is my bubble of creativity, I suppose. I just turn on my music, close the door, and write. Sometimes it takes me thirty minutes – sometimes it takes me seven hours. It depends on what I’m writing. It depends on how difficult it is for me to create a specific scene or convey a certain emotion. If I’m writing an emotional scene, it can take me a long time.
My favorite place to write, though, is in the mountains, in the seclusion of a quiet forest. That’s where imagination really works well.
Favorite movie? Favorite television show?
I don’t think it’s possible for me to choose a favorite movie. I like so many! I really enjoy anything that’s action or adventure. I adore superhero movies and animated films – don’t even get me started on Wall-e. The Book of Eli is really cool, and so is any movie with Dwayne Johnson.
As far as television goes, I usually only have time to watch TV during June and July. I love Pretty Little Liars, Gilmore Girls (La, la, la, la!), and I’m positively obsessed – and by obsessed I mean madly in love – with The Walking Dead.
Favorite classic book?
When I was growing up, I ONLY read classic literature. I really was completely unaware until the age of sixteen that there was such a thing as “easy-to-read stories,” like Twilight or Harry Potter. I remember being so impressed with how fun it was to read a book that wasn’t written in old English (Ivanhoe, anyone?).
My favorite classic books (yes, plural!) are Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Great Expectations and Dracula. In case you hadn’t noticed, I have a thing for stories with dark undertones.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I really like to read. I find it nearly impossible to read while I’m writing a manuscript. I just have to focus all of my attention on the story creation. So I only read when I’m not writing a book – which is usually on the weekends. I love to crochet – I adore it. It’s very soothing.
I think the best thing to do during the summer is to go swimming, watch a movie, and then sit on the tailgate of a pickup truck, smell the fruit in the orchards, and watch the stars. I could do that forever. I guess I’m just a little country girl at heart! I also enjoy cooking. Pioneer Woman is my favorite thing ever. I’m totally serious. Ree Drummond is my hero. She needs to adopt me and teach me her ways.
Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Here’s where I fess up and admit that I’m a hybrid. I plot out my stories, I know who the characters are, and I know exactly what’s going to happen before I actually sit down and write the book. However, I do not plot out the specific scenes. I have general ideas, but I allow the personalities of the characters and the environments to shape and mold the scene, therefore making it – in my opinion, at least – more organic.
At this point in the Collapse Series, the characters shape their own destinies. In many ways I am just following where they lead – I simply nudge them in the right direction.
Favorite writing snack?
Tea and chocolate. It’s my favorite combination. During the hot months, it’s iced tea, and during the cold months, it’s hot tea. I literally had a stack of eighteen snickers bars behind my desk. You know. Just in case I got a craving or something.
Upcoming projects?
Collapse: The Illustrated Guide comes out this summer. The paperback will release first, and then the eBook will be available around August 2015. The conclusion to the Zero Trilogy, End of Day, will release October 9th, 2015. Then I’ve got the next Collapse book coming out in January 2016, Bravo: Apocalypse Mission in March 2016, and another Collapse book in June 2016.
So yeah. When I have downtime, I seize it and don’t let go!
