Orion is a Subpar, expected to mine the tunnels of Outpost Five, near the deadly flash curtain. For generations, her people have chased cirium—the only element that can shield humanity from the curtain’s radioactive particles. She and her caving partner, Dram work the most treacherous tunnel, fighting past flash bats and tunnel gulls, in hopes of mining enough cirium to earn their way into the protected city.

But when newcomers arrive at Outpost Five, Orion uncovers disturbing revelations that make her question everything she thought she knew about life on both sides of the cirium shield. As conditions at the outpost grow increasingly dangerous, it’s up to Orion to forge a way past the flashfall, beyond all boundaries, beyond the world as she knows it.

Step in my Steps.....

By far my favorite novel of 2016 for SOOOOOO many reasons!

Every aspect of Flashfall had me enthralled, each character held my attention without effort and every single detail painted the most beautiful picture in my mind.

Orion, or Rye, is a fearless, determined herion, who makes reckless choices & will stop at nothing to reach her goals. All she wants for her and Dram is to reach their goal of 400 cirium grams and be freed of their caver roles in Outpost Five....but it seems the Congress of the Jewel had different plans. Once Rye realizes what Congress is truly trying to do she struggles with telling Dram & the others, or keeping it to herself to save them from acting out. But the ironic part is that Rye has a temper of her own....and what's wrong with a little outburst?? Everything. As the story takes a turn, and trust me it's a major turn, the chemistry within the characters changes. It shifts in a way that makes you feel all the emoitions at once. Without giving too much up, just trust that it's worth reading about!

One of my favorite quotes in Flashfall comes at the end of chapter 4:

"When you...get past...curtain," Foss whispers, "bury it. Put my ashes in ground...of free men."

I love this quote because it symbolizes why all the cavers are mining day in and day out. They are trying to find a life beyond the mines, they're digging for freedom.

I absolutely loved how the author came up with so many unique details in Rye's world, from the orbies, tunnel gulls, the cordon and even the blue in Dram's eyes....*sigh*. Every single aspect of the Flashfall drew me in even further, and had me invested with all my heart and soul!

It's a must read for anyone, young or old. I haven't seen a debut novel this good in years, Jenny Moyer an extremely bright literary future ahead of her, and I can't wait to see where she takes it! Easily I have to give this book 5 Stars, I would probably give it 6 if that was possible! Fantastic Job Jenny!!

5/5

Dream Cast

Orion

Teresa Palmer would be an amazing Rye, she's gritty & tough an all the things Rye embodies!

Dram

Hands down Scott Eastwood....he SCREAMS Dram with his strong features. Yet he can produce a smartass comment when needed

Lenn

Rebecca Ferguson screams Lenn to me, with her ability to keep secrets....yet protect when she needs to.

Reeves

Travis Fimmel as the strong, determined survivor that is Reeves

Gabrielein (Gabe)

Dave Franco as Gabe for sure.

Cranny

I feel like Ed Harris could play a wicked Cranny!

Winn
Millie Bobby Brown could please such a good Winn! Young, innocent, she's got it all.

Roran

For Roran's secret keeping character, I think Ezra Miller would be terrific!

Orion's Father

For Orion's father I could totally see Andrew Lincoln knocking it out of the park!
