Normal is so overrated. At least that's what seventeen-year-old Kate Triumph tells herself everyday. But the truth is she lives in constant fear that someone will discover how not normal she really is. With her startling speed and her unusual ability to heal, Kate believes she's something of a freak.

Then Andrew Shore arrives.

He claims he's her father, sticks around for a few days and leaves her a plane ticket. “Come to Mercer Island,” he says. “Give me a chance to get to know you.” Soon Kate is floundering in a world of new: new address, new car, new high school and, of course, new father. Not to mention Zack, her intriguing new neighbor, who makes her want to abandon her steadfast rule of never allowing anyone to get too close. But when she discovers someone is trying to kill her, life for Kate gets a bit more complicated. And a lot less normal.

Spectacular!

After finishing Kate Triumph it took me a while to collect my thoughts for this review. My emotions were swirling...my mind was on literary overload....I typed these first few lines multiple times to ensure all my feelings come through exactly how I wanted them to. Then I decided, what the Hellion, let my thoughts flow!

Kate is not only amazing, she's surprisingly centered for someone so young. She's already come to terms with who, or what, she is, so it's a nice change of pace for a main character to be in tune with themselves. With all her extra abilities, her talent in track sets her apart from everyone else without her having to try. It's the only thing that gives her a sense of normalcy....if that's what you want to call it. But after she suddenly loses her mother, everything around seems to come unhinged. The father she thought was dead apparently is not, she moves thousands of miles from her home, she's being followed, and some creepy doctor guy just won't let her go....and that's only the beginning.

Not only was this story well balanced, with suspense, love, mystery and danger, it had that added element of paranormal without being too much. You know when you can tell an author is trying too hard to be "different", their plot lines feel forced & their characters are just so predictable. I can safely say that Shari Arnold has no problem creating something new and exciting with ease. Each scene made me feel like I was right there with Kate, or Jonah, or one of the other fantastic characters in this book.

I strongly recommend grabbing this book, Kate Triumph is the first book in this promising series that I guarantee will sweep you away into a literary heaven!
