{Blog Tour: Review + Random Things + GIVEAWAY} Guardians - By SusanKim & Laurence Klavan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Author(s): Susan Kim & Laurence Klavan
Release Date: 3/24/2015
Purchase Info: Amazon ~ B&N
The Emmy Award-nominated and Edgar Award-winning duo of Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan deliver a heart-pounding finale to the postapocalyptic teen world of the Wasteland, filled with dramatic twists and turns. Bestselling author of Criminal, Karin Slaughter, called Wasteland "a Lord of the Flies for future generations. An irresistible page-turner."
No one dares to leave the District—the towering structure of glass and steel that is their protection against the unruly bands of Outsiders that roam Mundreel and the deadly rain that carries the disease that kills all over the age of nineteen.
This skyscraper stands amid the urban devastation, the city rumored to have once been called "Montreal." Esther and her allies have created a haven on the rooftop, a garden that flourishes, and a home for her new baby, hidden from all but the very few who know her secret. But as Gideon's power grows and factions form, the ultimate darkness is born from greed, and Esther must find a way to save the citizens from themselves.
Am
Hooked!
From page one you could tell there was a power struggle in this diverse group that would define this book. Not having read the first 2 books
In this
Series I was a little lost in the beginning, but the authors had such a great way of giving all the back stories without dragging the story line out. You could tell there have been some pretty big issues in that the characters were able to overcome, but there are those specific characters who just can't let things go.
I felt as though Esther took a lot on in this book, she seemed a little emotionally unhinged at times....but I mean with some of the characters killing each other off I would be too. Plus that's one aspect of this book I really enjoyed. No one was safe, it made for a more interesting story, because just when you thought you'd fallen for a someone...BAM! They're gone! Esther did take on a lot to keep her people safe, she knows what needs to be done and I felt as though she genuinely struggled to make those tough decisions throughout the entire book.
I really, really wish Gideon had been one of those characters who got the "BAM", because he was an asshole....sorry....no one likes a power hungry tyrant....no one.
Overall I highly enjoyed the story line in this book, it was meticulously thought out, and I foresee the series going to great places!
Random Things About Susan & Laurence:
Susan:
1.       I was in a comedy improv group called Spontaneous Combustion. We toured around other colleges and also spent a summer performing at the Royale Lounge in the old Mount Airy Lodge (“your host with the most in the Poconos”.) It was a great experience in that it was genuinely trial by fire: you will never appreciate what rejection feels like until you try making a roomful of surly, drunk people laugh.
2.      I majored in English and theatre, but adored psychology and almost tried to do a triple major.
3.      Most of what I wore was from thrift shops. Some of my favorite pieces: a Boy Scout uniform shirt, a stewardess cape from Qantas, a rugby referee shirt, a striped mini-dress from the 60s, and a green silk bomber jacket that said “Korea”. As Macklemore sang, my idea of a great time was popping some tags.
4.       I had a terrible (as in nonexistent) work ethic. At the library, I’d talk so much, my friends stopped asking me to study with them. I’m actually kind of amazed I graduated.
5.      Even though I mostly took theatre and literature classes, I appreciated that you were encouraged/forced to study other things. Two of my favorite classes were intro geology and playing the Javanese gamelan.
Laurence:
1.       I went to college in New York City and once accidentally dropped my books on the subway tracks.
2.       Maybe it wasn’t accidental.
3.      I worked in publishing during college but was laid off when the company was sold.
4.      I broke up with my high school girlfriend during college.
5.      Actually, she broke up with me.
{Review} Polarity in Motion - By Brenda Vicars
Author: Brenda Vicars
Release Date: 12/2014
 Purchase Info: Amazon
Fifteen-year-old Polarity Weeks just wants to live a normal life, but with a mother diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, that’s rarely easy. Her life gets exponentially more disastrous when her sixth-period history classmates start ogling a nude picture of her on the Internet. Polarity would never have struck such a shameless pose, but the photo is definitely of her, and she’s at a complete loss to explain its existence.
Child Protective Services yanks her from her home, suspecting her parents. The kids at school mock her, assuming she took it herself. And Ethan, the boy she was really starting to like, backpedals and joins the taunting chorus. Surrounded by disbelief and derision on all sides, Polarity desperately seeks the truth among her friends. Only then does she learn that everyone has dark secrets, and no one’s life is anywhere near normal.
What an amazing story of self discovery!
Polarity in Motion was a fantastic breath of fresh air. It was emotional, uplifting and empowering to see Polarity embark on such a journey. Not only did she rise from humiliating ashes, she became better for it.
Polarity is the kind of character you instantly relate to, she is down to earth, awkward & just trying to find a place to fit it. Dealing with her mother is hard enough, so she feels like school is a safe ground to feel normal. That is until crap hits the fan. I couldn't imagine what Polarity must have gone through when she was not only being made fun of at school, but taken out of the arms of her mother. I shed quiet a few tears during some of these extremely emotional scenes, because I wanted to help....and if an author can suck you in like that then they're doing something right.
My only qualm with the book was a few things on how it ended, they seemed a little too "easy" for me, I wanted a tad bit for fight, but overall I truly enjoyed this book & thank Brenda for creating such a stong couragous character for me to enjoy!
Purchase:
Dark eyes meet mine.
Everything slows, like the world melts into molasses and in it, I’m stuck. A guy stands in front of me, his body only inches away, and suddenly, he’s the only one in the room. The dancers fade into shadows and mist. The music is the low thrum that underscores the world. And there’s just him. Black skin, dark as I’ve ever seen. Sculpted arms hinting at a strong body, as if everything of him is muscle and sinew. He’s about my age, at least six-foot-two, and easily the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on. And he smiles like he knows me. Like he’s saying hello.
His hand reaches out. Brushes a shadow, a girl, and shimmering mist ghosts away from her to caress his arm like a lover. His smile broadens.
The mist absorbs into his skin.
He nods to me, still friendly. Still like we’re acquaintances who’ve simply run into one another on the street. And then he’s gone into the shadows and the crowd comes rushing back again.
I gasp. Bodies buffet me on all sides, crushing me, and my exhilaration is shattered. The music is too loud. The lights spin like deranged kaleidoscopes, blinding me. I’m hot, covered in sweat, and the emerald green dress is glued to my skin. My pulse is flying but my body keeps moving like it can’t help itself, like it’s lost to the rush of swirling lasers, pounding music, and fog.
Fog that’s pouring into me.
My eyes go wide. Flecked with sparks of color and light, clouds of it rise from the dancers like mist over a pond. Tendrils stream away from those nearest to me, moving like charmed snakes to coil around my body, slipping over my dress, my skin, and then vanishing inside me.
It’s so not a fog machine. Not this. Sweet God, what’s happening?
Skye Malone is a fantasy and paranormal romance author, which means she spends most of her time not-quite-convinced that the things she imagines couldn’t actually exist.
Born and raised in central Illinois, she hopes someday to travel the world — though in the meantime she’ll take any story that whisks her off to a place where the fantastic lives inside the everyday. She loves strong and passionate characters, complex villains, and satisfying endings that stay with you long after the book is closed. An inveterate writer, she can’t go a day without getting her hands on a keyboard, and can usually be found typing away while she listens to all the adventures unfolding in her head.
Skye also writes YA urban fantasy as Megan Joel Peterson and is the author of The Children and the Blood trilogy.
{Blog Tour: Review} The Southern Belle's Guide to Witchcraft - By Loribelle Hunt
Author: Loribelle Hunt
Website
Release Date: 2/27/2015
Purchase Info: Amazon ~ B&N
 There’s a new evil in town, and it’s gunning for Scarlet...
Scarlet Burke isn’t an ordinary witch. She comes from a long line of Burke witches, whose job it is to protect the good folks of Purgatory, Alabama from things that go bump in the night—and things that might slip through the portal in Fool’s Wood. Normally, it’s an easy gig that doesn’t take much time from her day job. Until her ex-husband turns up dead in a ritualistic killing no one recognizes. William, a mundane, had high-tailed it out of town years ago after getting Scarlet’s baby sister pregnant. So why had he come back? Better yet, who (besides Scarlet) had wanted him dead badly enough to lure him to the forest, stake him, skin him, and drain his blood? It wasn’t a vampire kill, but she was damned if she could determine what it was.
Werewolf Jake Mills, the bossy and possessive chief of police, can’t believe anyone in his town could commit such a brutal crime. And Scarlet can’t believe she’s still trying to avoid his advances. Jake has been chasing her for years, and if he wasn’t so charming—and so drop dead sexy—she might try harder to outrun him. Or at least summon a bit of self-control. But the man simply refuses to stay in the “Just Friends” box she’s placed him in.
But when the killer targets Scarlet’s family, ghouls, demons, and dark fae all come under suspicion. And when her daughters become the targets of an ancient dark ritual, Scarlet and Jake are forced to make an impossible choice. Fight evil with evil, or watch Scarlet’s daughters die...
Fantastic!
Diving into The Southern Belle's Guide to Witchcraft was such a change from everything I've read lately. It was dark, sexy, and full of action!
Scarlet was a spit fire, I fell in love with her wit, charm and low tolerance for stupid people....(we share that trait) She is such a fighter too, you cross her, or anyone she cares about, and you've got hell to deal with. Whenever a heroine has all these characteristics it's really hard for me not to fall in love with them. I like a fighter, what can I say?
Then of course, there's tall dark and furry.
At first Jake got on my nerves, I don't know what it was about him, but I definitely wasn't team Jake in the beginning....but then one scene in particular had me swooning over him. It was his selflessness for Scarlet and her daughter's that made him Book Boyfriend material. Plus, I feel by the end of this book he realized a lot more was a stake than just his feelings for Scarlet.
Now let's talk witch craft! Some of the spells, charms & rituals in this novel were so maticuously thought out, I feel as though Loribelle Hunt truly did her homework. Anyone can write about witches, but it takes that specfic type of ompf to make it feel real and tangible.
So bring on book #2, I need more witchcraft, more Scarlet, more everything!
About the Author:
Loribelle is like the South she calls home. Hot and sultry. Languid and sexy. Magnolias and gardenias scent her silk lined boudoir, and men and children alike bow to her magnificence...
Okay, maybe it isn't quite that glamorous. She does have two smart and lovely daughters who give her a run for her money and a son that will one day be someone's model of a romance hero. (She promises.) Her husband is a real life hero, and Loribelle just tries to keep up with the demands of military life. In between, she writes a book or two.
She's had every job under the sun, but haven't most writers? That Army military police, bookstore manager, waitress, wedding photographer, website designer experience has to come in useful sometimes. As they say in the South, it all washes out in the end.
